Off The Grid News Releases New Article as a Spoof On The ?Fiscal Cliff? Negotiations

Off The Grid News recently released a satire article poking fun at the ?fiscal cliff? negotiations. In the piece, the strategy to address the ?fiscal cliff? is through a ?Toys of Change? initiative.

Thomson, IL (PRWEB) December 19, 2012

In the words of Comedy Central Comedian, Stephen Colbert, ?Merry Cliffmas.? The current state of the nation faces great decisions, tough questions, and humbling events. With so much heavy content circulating, people are searching for ways to bring these hard hitting issues into a new light. Off The Grid News did just that in their new satire article, ?Obama to Require Middle Class To ?Spread The Toys Around? to Avoid Fiscal Cliff.?

In a type of piece normally produced by comedians like Colbert or Jon Stewart, Off The Grid News offers a humorous spin on the fast approaching ?fiscal cliff.? The suggestion involves what they call a ?Toys of Change? plan, where ?middle-income? Americans would be required to purchase from a list of forty-four ?GAO-approved? toys in an effort to stimulate the economy.

One of the stipulations, made by the Republican Party, calls for the Obama Administration to ?stop using the neutered language of ?holiday toys? and use the language of ?Christmas.?? Further along in the piece, they reference how setting up the proposed ?Department of Internal Toy Transfers (DITT),? was good in theory but would prove to undermine the ?fiscal cliff? negotiations.

?During times of panic and controversy like we are facing right now (e.g. the Fiscal Cliff and Mayan Calendar), the coverage becomes a resounding gong of opinions and media coverage. It is easy to be overwhelmed with information coming from so many different channels. Sometimes the only way I can find to make sense out of things is to turn it into nonsense,? says Bill Heid, founder of Off The Grid News.

The talks of the fiscal cliff will come to an end on December 31, 2012. With this end fast approaching, House and Senate leaders are trying to do what they can to bring a resolution to these talks. Different approaches have been explored throughout the discussion. While none of them included a ?Toys of Change? proposal, some have resulted in taking a look at the upcoming holiday season.

In a December 12 meeting of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi stated, ?[The American People] want to shop for [the holidays]. They want to have family dinners and they want to exchange gifts, as is the tradition, but they really don?t know if they?re going to be able to pay the bill in January for the purposes in December.?

Occasionally, Off The Grid News will take pertinent news pieces and spin them into a humorous story through their ?Way Off The Grid? section. In order to avoid confusion with their readership, the following editor?s note is placed on each write-up: ?Way Off the Grid is a satire feature of Off the Grid News. While the articles in this section may deal with current events, they are meant to portray these topics in a satirical and humorous light.?
